Advice

In general, it is ill advised to purchase a puppy over the Internet. Professional-looking web pages are out there fronting what can best be described as commercial or "puppy mill" breeders. Beware of flashing "Puppies Available" banners on the front page. It is best, if purchasing a pet, to try to buy locally from a breeder who is affiliated with a recognized breed club, such as the national or local breed club. Seek references, take your time and DO use the Internet as a source for information - but beware! For every reputable and knowledgeable dog breeder, there are many who are decidedly not. Ask the breeder if they have a health guarantee, but make sure the references you speak to do not have their third replacement because of health problems. Get a contract. You want a healthy, happy companion so please don't be in a hurry! A good dog is worth the time required to properly research and evaluate both the breed and the breeders you are considering. Most reputable breeders will require that you reserve in advance, as their animals are in high demand. Be patient...good things come to those who wait!
